MTANDAO KATILI – 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM CAMPAIGN

The Launchpad Tanzania has been running a number of initiatives on digital rights, digital literacy, and digital skills for women and young people in several fields of work.

Mtandao Katili is an online campaign carried out on social media platforms by LP Digitial, a digital wing of The Launchpad Tanzania. Micro-influencers are often used for this campaign.

To properly expose online gender-based violence, journalists must be given the proper resources and training. In order to attain this goal, in 2023, 5 days of training on reporting online abuse against women was also executed, with journalists being the main beneficiaries of the training. The training was an activity under the Women @ web project in collaboration with the German Embassy in Tanzania as part of the #16DaysOfActivism elimination of violence against women and girls.

The majority of the community's most trusted voices are journalists. Even when a case is inaccurately reported or disseminated, society will still act accordingly. Unfortunately, the majority of incidents are not properly recorded, and as a result, the victims of online gender-based violence receive no justice.

The importance of reporting cases of gender-based violence, including that which occurs online, must be equal to that of other forms of gender-based violence. For this reason, LP Digital continues to advocate for the correct reporting of OVAW cases.
